Dizziness / Balance Disorder

Dizziness is one of the most common complaints in ENT and can be very distressing for patients. The causes are diverse – from harmless positional vertigo to disorders of the balance organ in the inner ear. A thorough evaluation is therefore especially important.

Typical causes

  • Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV): short, intense dizziness when turning in bed or changing position; common, but easily treatable.
  • Vestibular disorders: dysfunction of the inner ear balance system, which may cause spinning sensations, unsteadiness, or nausea.
  • Other causes: circulation problems, neurological conditions, or vascular disorders can also trigger dizziness – in these cases, close cooperation with neurology is important.

Diagnostics

  • Balance testing: specialized tests to check the function of the inner ear and the balance system.
  • Collaboration with neurology and other specialties: if the cause lies outside the ENT field.

Treatment

Treatment depends on the underlying cause:

  • BPPV: simple repositioning maneuvers that often bring immediate relief.
  • Vestibular disorders: medication, balance training, or targeted rehabilitation.
  • Other causes: individualized treatment plans in cooperation with neurology and other disciplines.

My approach

My priority is to carefully identify the exact cause of dizziness and then provide a personalized treatment plan – restoring stability, safety, and quality of life.
