Smell & Taste

The senses of smell and taste are essential for quality of life and safety. Loss or changes can occur after infections (such as COVID-19), injuries, or as part of chronic sinus infections.

Common causes of smell and taste disorders

  • Smell tests: standardized smell and taste tests to precisely measure deficits
  • Endoscopic examination: of the nose and sinuses to determine the underlying cause

Treatment options

  • Medications: e.g. corticosteroids or modern biologics for chronic sinusitis with polyps
  • Smell training: a structured program in which patients regularly smell selected odors (e.g. lemon, rose, eucalyptus, clove). Studies show this can promote regeneration and speed up recovery.
  • Surgery: using minimally invasive endoscopic techniques, if anatomical changes or chronic inflammation are the cause

My approach

I combine modern diagnostics with individualized treatment – from conservative and medical therapies to surgical options. A particular focus is on smell training, which I personally guide and combine with medical therapy. The goal is always to restore the sense of smell and taste as best as possible.
